Live Green supports greening efforts at the DNC, Aug. 25-28
June 27, 2008
CSU's Live Green Team, a committee of CSU faculty, staff and students, is excited to play a critical role in the Democratic National Convention Committee's recycling effort. Live Green believes this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the CSU community to be part of a Green Team Sorting Crew at the Democratic National Convention, or DNC, Aug. 25-28 in Denver. It is up to this crew to ensure the recycling is pure.
Colorado State recognized for its recycling success
CSU is recognized around the country for its success in recycling efforts. The university placed second in RecycleMania this year, a national recycling competition involving more than 400 colleges and universities.
Denver will host the largest event in its history this August. The Live Green Team is encouraging the CSU community to be a part of history and to make a difference. This is an opportunity to show the nation that CSU is "The Green University."
Team of 520 volunteers needed
The Live Green Team is starting to recruit the 520 students, staff, faculty, alumni and friends of CSU that will volunteer to be part of the DNCC's major recycling effort.
The DNCC aims for an 85 percent diversion rate, meaning that 85 percent of the waste generated at the event will not go to the landfill - it will be recycled, reused, or composted.
Hands-on sorters behind-the-scenes at the Pepsi Center
The Green Team Sorting Crew will be hands-on sorters in the Quality Control Sorting Center behind-the-scenes at the Pepsi Center and Convention Center. Crew members will remove landfill waste from the compost and recycling streams. Live Green wants the volunteers to know that this is a great opportunity but it will be work. Volunteers will get their hands dirty behind-the-scenes at an event the entire world will be watching.
Convention during first week of fall semester
Although this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history in the making, Live Green wants to spread a word of caution to students. Since it is the first week of fall semester, students are encouraged to check class schedules before volunteering to ensure that their shift or shifts doesn't interfere with class.
