Please join the Office of Women's Programs and Studies and the Office of Equal Opportunity and Diversity as we honor the three recipients of the 2008 Margaret B. Hazaleus Award on Friday, April 4, at 4 p.m., in the Long's Peak Room, Lory Student Center.
ELLEN FISHER, professor, Department of Chemistry
In a field where women are severely underrepresented, Dr. Ellen Fisher has served as a role model and mentor for women. Not only has she led an extremely successful career, but has also dedicated her time to advancing the status of women in the sciences. Fisher helped to found two organizations promoting women at CSU: Women in Chemistry and Women in Natural Sciences in addition to working individually with over 50 graduate and undergraduate students. Her recommenders state that she has "single-handedly. . . increased the proportion of women Ph.D.s graduating from CSU" because of her outstanding mentorship.
JENNIFER "JAN" IRON, info tech professional III, Colo. Agricultural Experiment Station
Jennifer "Jan" Iron is described as "a true leader. . . in her pursuit of helping women at Colorado State University." She has been involved in the campus community since her graduation from CSU. Other than her work with the Colorado Agricultural Experiment Station, she has also taught Navajo language courses and co-founded the Northern Colorado Intertribal Powwow Association. Additionally, Iron continues to educate others about the status of Native American women at presentations throughout the community.
GUALALUPE SALAZAR, director, El Centro
Guadalupe Salazar was nominated for her outstanding influence as a positive role model and mentor to CSU students, particularly Latina women. Salazar has given many presentations to the campus and larger community regarding issues for the Latina/o community. She has also worked extensively with the Latina sororities and Hispanic-serving leadership programs on campus. Salazar's recommenders agree that she is instrumental in student retention through her role as Director of El Centro Student Services.

The Hazaleus awards were started to honor individuals for long-term efforts to enhance the opportunities for women on campus. Since 1997, women have been honored who are role models to faculty, administrators and students and who break ground, as Margaret Hazaleus did, for the women who follow them.
