View historic CSU photographs during Archive's Month

October is Archives Month. The CSU Libraries' Archives and Special Collections department is celebrating by sharing weekly facts about its holdings. The department documents many historical areas, including CSU, water, agriculture, and more. This week's focus is on the University Historic Photograph Collection.
Did you know . . .
-- Approximately 500,000 photographs became part of the University Archive in 2006, a result of the reorganization of the Office of Instructional Services.
-- The photos date from about 1880 up to 2001.
-- The collection represents a timeline of photographic processes; numerous formats are present, including glass plate negatives, cyanotypes, and lantern slides.
-- The photos document such interesting things as:
-students performing required manual labor (two hours a day!) working on campus in CSU's early days
-the three mascots prior to CAM the Ram: a bulldog, a bear, and Harry Hughes' (of Hughes Stadium) son
-- Work has begun toward digitizing a sigificant portion of the collection to provide online acess.
