Building a 21st century research library: University Libraries announces a new organization and interior vision for Morgan Library
The Libraries strategic plan, which aligns with the University's plan, is designed to create a research library at CSU that meets the needs of a 21st century university. Fresh approaches, new technological tools, and new services are required to meet emerging user needs. Based on the Libraries' strategic plan goals and financial situation, we are proud to announce a new organization of the Libraries that continues some of the services and programs of the past but reflects the increasing importance of tailoring services to specific user communities, emphasizing digital over analog formats, and maximizing the value the Libraries add to the University's academic program.
A major goal of the Libraries strategic plan is to improve collections and services needed by different segments of the user community and the new Libraries organizational structure shifts resources to its strategic plan priorities. These new library divisions include the Learning Commons Division, which will provide centralized information and resources in a high-quality service environment designed to connect students with the resources they need; the Scholarly Communication Division, which will promote and provide resources and services with an emphasis on research to meet the advancing college and discipline specific needs; and Digital Services Division, which will develop, promote, and support digital content and services for research, learning, and preserving the historical record.
The reorganization of our units also comes as we embark on a project to realize a new interior vision for Morgan Library that will maximize the space to meet the study needs of students, faculty, and staff. More information about the redesign of Morgan Library can be found on our Web site (http://lib.colostate.edu/about/goals/morgan-library-redesign-overview.html) and architectural renderings and design plans will be on display in the First National Bank Gallery of Morgan Library starting on October 4.
I would like to invite you to by visit our Web site (http://lib.colostate.edu/about/goals) to read our strategic plan, explore the initiatives of our new organization, and discover the new vision for Morgan Library as we strive to support the academic and research pursuits of Colorado State University and beyond.
